2120: Marion Bartoli, a 999/1 chance before the tournament started, is now one match away from winning the Wimbledon title.
The unheralded Frenchwoman looked set to bow out as expected in her semi-final against world number one Justine Henin after losing the first set 6-1.
But in a remarkable turnaround Bartoli levelled the contest by taking the second set 7-5 before brushing aside the stunned Henin 6-1 in the decider.
One Betfair punter had £184 on Bartoli at 129/1 in-running but it was the amounts staked on Henin at massive odds-on that marked the match out as one of the most astonishing sports betting events ever.
At 6-1 and 1-0 up with a break, Henin, who started the match as the 1/20 favourite, was backed at the minimum odds of 1/100 on Betfair.
An amazing £447,574 was matched on Henin at 1/100, with £797,119 at 1/50, and a further £809,490 at 1/33.
In total over £4m was matched on Henin at 1/20 or shorter.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: "Winners at the maximum price of 999/1 are regular occurrences on Betfair these days, but I have never seen anything like this.
"Those who backed Henin at 1/100 may be devastated, but the Betfair punters who laid them the bets have effectively backed a 100/1 winner in a two-runner race.
"But even that was eclipsed by those who secured odds of up to 129/1 about Bartoli."
Bartoli now plays three-time winner Venus Williams in the final after the American came through 6-2 6-4 against Ana Ivanovic.
Williams is a massive 1/6 favourite to win her fourth crown while Bartoli is 7/2 to cause another shock.
